The vet came out to our house so Joseph could spend his last day with Anne and I, lying on his bed and scoffing lots of smoked ham! Needless to say we are both terribly sad but in a way pleased for Joseph as he was getting fed-up with not being able to walk anymore and was just starting to lose interest in life, except at mealtimes of course.
I am glad to say that during his six years with us Joseph had a
wonderful time, and was much adored by us, our lodgers, his dog-walkers and most of the village. Being a particularly charismatic dog he was constantly the centre of attention wherever he went. He had loads of great adventures, and accompanied us on lots of holidays, camping trips and outings, his favourite was always dog walking weekends where he would settle down in the back of the Range Rover, arrive a few hours later at a country pub, have a long walk then later curl up beside us by the fire in the bar to receive the admiring attention of the customers and the occasional pork scratching.
Thank you for allowing us to share some great years with Joseph.
I would like to let you know that, very sadly, we had to have Joseph put to sleep. He was coming up to 14 years old and had been very happy and healthy throughout the six years since he moved from Foxdown to ours, but his arthritis (and sheer old age) finally got the better of him and last week his back legs gave up completely and he started to deteriorate rapidly.
Here's a picture of Fizz jumping. He will start competing next year and looks as though he will go onto great things.
This is Molly at 5 months old.
